If it doesn't make a difference to BYU's bowl eligibility, other factors need to
be considered, mainly recruiting. I don't think two extra wins is going to help BYU win recruiting battles for high schoolers in western states if Utah still looks better by comparison, such as how you have Scenario B set up (Utah beating BYU and going to the CCG). Maybe if it were the difference between BYU going to a bowl game or not (4 wins vs. 6 wins), I can see a better argument for just taking the extra wins, but I need longer-term upside to those 2 extra wins to accept a loss from Utah AND accept Utah gaining extra national prestige as a result.

Because there is almost zero difference between 3rd place and 7th place... but beating Utah... is still beating Utah
