I would argue that getting that feedback allowed you do know where you stood and
what things that you could work on - even if it was just to change the perception of what other people were thinking (that was shared to you from your boss), was beneficial. Far better than getting blindsided 4 months later thinking everything was going great and not knowing that your boss wasn't happy about something about your work.
