As a school admin, it feels like we are under more and more scrutiny every year.
This year we rolled out the following in Utah:

-Removed cell phones from school (huge).
-Report all parent complaints to state licensing board.
-New safety regulations (guardian rule).
-Banned book list.
-New special ed rules.
-We aren’t allowed to allow a student to disrespect a teacher (very vague rule, we’re all confused).

Those are just some of the big ones. There were hundreds of laws passed this year impacting education. With an increase of law suits across the state both from parents about their students as well as teachers, it’s no surprise to me that admin staff have increased. I can’t tell you how often I feel like I’m pinched between two directives. We are constantly consulting each other, district directors, our superintendent, and our lawyer to avoid breaking a law. We have to even be careful how and when we talk to each other. Last year one of our principals had his text messages subpoenaed.

Just some insight for all of you who think it’s a bed of roses for us admin.
