I don't think we should trust the judgment of the staff that thought Connover and then JR were QB1 material, that virtually abandoned QB recruiting, or that thought 2023 we were the deepest and strongest ever at every position. I think most fans, most media and most unbiased observers (like EA Sports) would agree.

*If JR starts as QB1 I will be disappointed. If he starts and somehow gets BYU to a bowl game (which will be tough, regardless of QB), I will be shocked and happy to eat crow. It'll be delicious. I don't see a way we win more than 4 games with him at the helm. And I'm not sure why that opinion is so controversial. But I will try not to share it as much.
