IMO, college is about learning, but its primary value in employment is to
demonstrate to others that you know how to learn.
If you don't go to college, you have to figure out other ways to demonstrate your abilities to others. Which is fine if you have some specific skill sets - a trade, charisma and people skills, mechanical know how, etc that you can leverage. But if you don't know what those things are for you, I think it's a struggle. Which is why college, trade schools and the military can help.
