They went 1-1 that season with a 6-4 win and a 0-8 loss, so even that one is pretty weak
Also, the rules at that time were that you weren't allowed to carry the ball or throw it. The ball in this case, being a soccer ball. And the aim of the game being to kick it into the other teams' goal.

They played 10 "rounds" with each round being one score, Rutgers got 6, Princeton got 4, so Rutgers won 6-4. Before going to Princeton later and losing 8-0.

I absolutely don't think Utah or UCF were ever champions.... but their results are still closer to a college football national title than whatever Rutgers did in 1869
