This is maybe the craziest finish Ive seen to a soccer game. Atlanta’s Senegalese striker stalked the goalie like a lion

I was at this game with my nine year old daughter, who was antsy to leave. I convinced her to play the table shuffleboard game in the concourse above our section of seats so I could watch the last few minutes of the game.

So, when this happened, I was watching from the standing area at the top of our section. As Atlanta failed to convert their last offensive chance, with the clock more than a minute past the six minutes of added time, I expected the opposing keeper would kick the ball as far as he could and the referee would immediately blow the whistle for full time and the game would end in a tie (Atlanta has not won a home game since March, has fired their coach, and has just been depressing to watch most of the year).

Anyway, at that point I told my daughter we could finally go. As we turned to leave, the crowd started to react to something. I turned back but now I strained to see the field through all the people who were suddenly standing. I wondered “how did we not only get the ball back but how are we right at the top of the box and… what? HOW DID WE JUST SCORE? Why are there flames and a train horn?”

The Atlanta radio play-by-play guy had a great, spontaneous call of the goal where he ended it by stating, “Atlanta United just committed GRAND THEFT!” He is a native of a Philadelphia and also calls the Atlanta Falcons games. He said, off the top of his head, the only thing to which he could compare this finish would perhaps be the Miracle at the Meadowlands.

My daughter watched the replay of the goal and I explained how smart the player was to trick the goalie and she loved it. She reenacted the whole sequence for my wife when we got home.
