My hope is that both Demin & Catchings will realize the benefits of …
… staying which are IMHO:
1) increased skill development under legit NBA development coaches.
2) NIL funding similar to NBA for less than half the games: 35-40 vs 82-90+.
3) less wear and tear on a young body not yet fully developed.
4) greater physical maturity prior to the ball & chain beat down that is an NBA season.
5) enhanced mental & psychological strength which comes with age & experience.
6) additional training from recent NBA coaches on how to endure / survive an NBA rookie season and career.
7) greater chance for significant success individually and as a team in the Big 12 with each additional year they stay.
8) deferred pressure to “indulge” in what I envision is a cesspool of depravity for very young men (perhaps not even old enough to drink legally) in the NBA including drugs, fast cars, fast women, etc.
As we all know, just because you want something badly doesn’t mean you are ready for it. There are too many examples in life to list them here.
Both of these young men have strong families who will hopefully guide them wisely.
Also, they “may” stay longer if they believe the environment (community, school, athletic dept, coaches, teammates, fans) will benefit their future … and they have a lot of good, clean BYU fun over the next 9-10 months.
Again, I hope they decide to stay at least 2 years.
