And it's not really two types so much as a spectrum, but generally with two ends.
The one type believes that you should always support and believe 100% in BYU, regardless of any evidence to the contrary. If you don't project BYU to win the NCAA tournament AND the CFP, then this type might question if you're a 'real' fan. You just need to believe. And if our recruits are much lower rated, it's just because we know more and they're clearly actually the BEST recruits.
On the opposite end, you have someone who is ALWAYS looking for improvement...which means a lot of fault-finding. If you're ever happy, this type worries you're ok resting on your laurels instead of trying to get better. And if we get better recruits than last year...well we're still languishing behind Ohio St so can't get too excited
I've exaggerated the aspects of both and most of us lay somewhere between the two...but I think this different definition of what it means to be a fan is where the conflict arises
