DeminSlayer Walk-on
As a Wisconsin native, I've watched them beat one and done teams with way less
talent on the roster. I watched a Frank Kaminsky, Sam Dekker led team beat Karl Anthony-Towns, Devin Booker, 5 star-etc. one and done team. The college game is different than the pro game. Some programs turn lower star recruit kids into fundamentally sound college players, who although will never sniff an NBA roster, are perfect for the college game.

I'm ectstatic with what Kevin Young is doing. If he can turn into a Jay Wright, Hurley, Billy Donavan type coach at the college level with 4 and 5 star recruits, that will be awesome. In year one, I expect Demin to be really good. Some of the things he can do at that size are special and impressive. I feel like Catchings will need at least a year to develop into a really good college player. Even if he's only a 7 to 12 ppg player, he could end up being one and done based on potential alone, which won't be great on the court for BYU this year, but will still allow KY to sell future recruits on the ability to get kids to the NBA. Just need that momentum to continue forward. I think if Catchings played a sophomore/junior year for BYU, he could be a Big 12 poy candidate.

I'm curious to see if what a top NBA assistant and G-League head coach did in the pro game can synergetically translate over to the NCAA game. I feel like you have to be a little more creative to have success in college whereas in the pros you need to keep things simple, exploit matchups, and let the talent ride out. I think KY has that in him and will be able to do that, but we'll see.

I'm hopeful that KY will have success. Could be boom or bust. It's a shot worth taking than just mainly sticking with local Utah high school kids every year. I'm excited, but also have seen enough college basketball to know there are multiple ways to put a winner on the floor. Just my opinion. Go Cougs!
