...he too often disappeared in big games when we needed him most. He started the season out on a tear and had a bunch of big nights during OOC play but would mix in a run of double digit games several goose eggs like the Utah game for instance. He had 12 vs Evansville the game before Utah and followed up Utah with 20 vs Denver but had a goose egg vs Utah and was 0 fer 6 from 3 and only put up 3 rebounds (he had 8 vs Evansville and 14 vs Denver).

In conference play he got off to a rough start scoring 7 combined points in our first 3 games before busting loose vs ISU for 18, vs Houston for 17 and vs Texas for 17. Then followed that up with a combined 3 pts vs WVU and OK.

I get having rough shooting nights but there are ways to grind and still contribute points and help you team along but it seemed like too often if he missed his first few shots he retreated into a shell the rest of the game. The last 8 conference games he had 1 double digit game.

I don't know at this point if we'll see more consistent effort from Catchings but the guy is motivated to be in the draft after next season so I'd wager that kind of motivation will translate into a bigger motor on the court and more determined production.
