been able to pay enough back then. I know you guys love to see coaches who aren't Ty Detmer get fired, but what was he going to do back then, promote Jan Jorgenson?
I know people hate the "who else is out there" line of thinking, but cheap, underfunded non P5 independent programs with an emphasis on recruiting missionaries don't seem to pull in Jay Hill type coaches.
I'm also not convinced Kalani had/has the type of freedom to fire people at will like Whittingham. I highly doubt BYU wants to gain any kind of reputation as a place where assistants will be sent packing by the end of September.
Oh well, the board repeats this debate over and over. I think the program will be fine and win plenty due to increased investment, P5 status and Kalani's hiring of good assistant coaches.
