Talked with an accountant about this. If you ever got audited, they likely will
ding you on this.

You can’t post hoc claim every trip was for charitable purposes. Especially when there is a potential mix charity and personal, the documentation necessary is more stringent. Probably a log book recording mileage of the car as it happens.

His claim was that even in situations where your own child was in a meeting and you gave them a ride home in the second car after your own meeting, and claimed that mileage, it would violate the law.

He also said that during the audit, the burden of proof is on you. He also said that if you just blanket claimed you did all 52 weeks without taking into account weeks you were sick or away on work/vacation, would be another red flag for them to claim your record keeping was insufficient.

You can do it, but he said it was playing with fire.
