their church calling. That's easy money.
I just added up all the miles that were driven between my wife and I and it's an $1800 deduction in addition to the tithing and offering contributions. That's ~$550 off my taxes for literally about 10 minutes of work. At tax time, I just create a spreadsheet and go through each week on our google calendar and create an row for every item on the calendar that was for a church calling (presidency meetings, youth activities, bishopric/ward council meetings, etc.). Just 3 columns - the destination, round trip miles, and purpose. Get the mileage from searching on google maps. Add it all up and take the $.14 per mile deduction on it. Plus you can add any tolls or parking that you incurred.
In my case it adds up quickly as my wife is in the Stake YW and has meetings and events pretty much every week (including a youth Temple blitz this last summer where they did youth baptisms every week at the San Antonio temple which is a 150 mile round trip), and ran girls camp that was a couple hundred miles away. We also have to take multiple cars to the church every Sunday because of my calling @ 50 mile round trip to the church building.
So if you aren't doing this, it's not hard to create the documentation you need for it. Or if you want to spend a few bucks, get an app like MileIQ to track the miles for you. Then it's just a swipe left or right after each trip. Like I said, it's easy money.
Note, this applies for any miles driven for any charitable event. It doesn't have to be for your church calling. If you volunteer at the food bank, or the high school booster club, or anything like that, add up those miles. Don't give the government a penny more than they should get.
