Turns out you’re not allowed to run airbnbs in west Yellowstone, which we didn’t know. Within an hour of us being there, cops showed up telling us we didn’t have to leave but that we probably wouldn’t be welcomed in the neighborhood.
The kids all went into the huge garage to play ping pong, pool, etc. A few minutes later the kids ran into the house saying there was a man in the garage. Turns out the house was owned by a Chinese national, and he hired a friend to live in the corner of the garage blocked off by some swinging bar doors. He didn’t speak hardly any English but was able to communicate that he was the “butler.” So that was weird.
Next day we’re out playing games in the backyard when a couple walks out of an RV parked in the back yard of the property. Apparently the guy also rented out the RV, so we were sharing the property.
Neighbors honked and yelled all week as they passed the house. On the third day we woke up to a giant wood sign hammered into the ground with a message in both English and Chinese that said that anybody staying at the house was contributing to breaking the law.
I think we were the only people who ever rented that house. We kept looking for the listing but never saw it after we left. Good times.
