A former colleague of mine is a relative of the Fano's. He sees them regularly, and spoke with Spencer's dad yesterday afternoon. From what he told my buddy, it's not looking good for BYU.
Apparently at his senior night, Timpview was playing at Provo High's old field that is now part of byu campus, because Timpview's field is under construction. (I'm not sure if that's true or not. Can anyone confirm?).
From what he was told, Whittingham showed up in a helicopter. Oregon and UCLA coaches flew in on private jets to attend... Not one BYU coach was in attendance. Not one.
Then, on Saturday at the BYU v Arkansas game, Fano's family was sitting where Funk had given them tickets, but apparently it was in the same seats as his wife and daughter. When they showed up, and saw the Fano's in their section, they chewed out Fano's family for sitting in their seats and told them they didn't care who they were, they needed to leave. Fano's dad was done. He took the whole family, called Utah, and they promptly received tickets to the SC game.
Spencer's dad texted Funk and the other BYU coaches to let them know how disappointing the entire process had been, and that he thinks they're done with BYU, and no one responded. Tom Holmoe reached out later that evening, and is trying to do damage control, but Spencer's dad is done. His only response to Holmoe, "We've moved on... You should to".
This is second hand... Don't shoot the messenger. I'm just relaying what I was told. I do know he's well connected in the Polynesia community here in Utah, and I can confirm his relation to the Fano's.
