While we're airing our gripes, the fact that you can't send BMs, react to posts, or even vote in polls during a ban
is pretty silly. I guess my main point is, El Jefe, you have two goals:
1. To support your family via cougarboard.
2. To make cougarboard a place where people want to be and make it attractive.
We all know moderating is a headache. And I think on some level most of us appreciate that it's not just another subreddit full of spite, profanity, and NSFW stuff. But can we save the bans and the suspensions for stuff that actually matters? Can we simplify the politics? Do we need climate change, COVID, LGBTQ, and regular politics?
For example, earlier this week or last week, I got a suspension for replying to a tweet that someone had posted just the text of. The text of the tweet had been edited and I found the actual link, posted it. I didn't thoroughly read it, should have, and got a 1 day suspension for posting bad words. I didn't even appeal because what was the point? I'd broken the rules. But did I need to sit out for a day? Would just deleting the post work with a "Hey, please don't do that." I would be way more in favor of a "you've been warned three times in the last month. Take some time off the board and learn the rules" than a 3 hr penalty or a 1 day suspension. I think most people want to follow the rules. Stuff just happens.
