Safari lodge in Kenya
We stayed in this nice lodge in Kenya while on our safari but one night at dinner it started to downpour. We didn't think much of it and waited out the rain in the main lodge before making our way back to our cottage style room. As we and other guests went back to our rooms we noticed that because of the rain thousands - literally massive swarms of flying beetles were not only outside of our rooms under the overhangs but had crawled under the doors and were all over in our rooms. (The doors weren't sealed off - about 1/2" gap under them. We figured out pretty quickly to turn off the outside light on our room (sorry neighbors - bugs went your way) and then shoved towels under the door to stop more from coming in. After that we went to work swatting them all. My two youngest kids actually loved it.

We then heard an old lady next door freaking out as well so my middle son and I went in to help. We literally killed thousands of beetles - mass carnage. 🙂 The next morning at breakfast this old sweet old lady kept calling my middle son her hero and even gave him $20 for helping. It actually wasn't as horrible as it was hilarious. The bugs/beetles didn't do any harm but still nasty. We also, luckily, had bed nets we slept under so didn't have any companions visit us at night. I'd go back there again in a heart beat - I would just leave the light off out front and shove towels under the door to start.
