Very frustrating to me that the police look at the card to see they have insurance but there is no verification that it is in force. If the state requires a driver to have insurance, they should also require the insurance companies to notify them when a policy lapses due to unpaid premiums. Seems to be a hole in the system.

Anyhow, in the end I had to run it through my insurance and let them try to get the guy to pay for the accident. Untimately I had to pay for the deductible and got my car fixed. My agent assured me that my insurance shouldn't go up because the Police report proved I was not at fault. But yeah, I had to pay my deductible and the insurance company never got the guy to even pay for my deductible.
