It was a commercial success due to hype. Look at what it's done to a following

movie (Solo) and star wars franchising and apparel. They're down significantly across the board. If you want to really see the damage LTJ did or didn't do you need to wait for Episode 9 in December. The culmination of a trilogy and they're struggling to market it. We don't even have a trailer yet.
