In 2015, the assistant coaches (all sports) salary pool was $2.8M.
There were 27 assistant coaching positions (both genders). The assistants in football predictably are paid more than other assistants but all the total compensation was $2.8M. I think your numbers are close to reality.
For comparison, UU 2015-16 salary pool for 24 assistant coaches was $4M.
USU paid 31 assistants a total of $1.7M, in 2015-16
