Missing a big point...no degree.
Many studies done on the average incremental value of the "average" college degree vs. "some college" are consistently in the $500k - $1m + over the span a working life. With "elite" schools like BYU it might be even greater. Since he would almost certainly have this option in two years had he finished school, the incremental value of this decision was likely $200k-$400K.

Seems to me that is chump change when his NBA opportunity would likely have been exponentially better with more experience and more press and his post BB earning power significantly greater.

Yes, he might still get the degree but the odds he doesn't for so many unexpected reasons are much higher.
