Unfortunately there are a lot of players in the NBA that are good by circumstance. Each team has to have a "superstar" of sorts as everybody scores roughly 100 pts a game. These players ended up getting max money and crippling their teams financially without being able to bring the wins or title contention I would expect from a true max player.
Breaking the bank for Hayward effectively eliminates the Jazz from title contention because they won't have the money left to pay a truly elite player (if the opportunity presented itself). I'd rather have several good players willing to work hard but know their role and place (like an Ingles or Gobert) than one player who thinks he is elite but cripples the team financially.
