My ward requires a check for a deposit toward the camp. The check are just held

by the ward and not cashed or deposited. If the kid goes to camp, the ward returns the check. If the kids back out, then the check is cashed.

I don't think the ward has ever actually cashed a check - it's mostly just a tool to remind the parents that the ward is paying decent $$ for their son to attend.
