I like the idea of the parents having to pay something for scout camp...in my
ward we cover all the costs for every boy to go. There is no financial obligation on the part of the parents. Then we get the flaky kid who says he is going then backs out at the last minute. The church eats the costs. If a parent had to pay then they would feel obligated to send the kid.

The parent issue is a tough one. This happens all the time where a parent says he will go then backs out (usually for work related issues). But being by yourself at camp is a big no no. It's hard to cancel the camp but I guess that is an option since there isn't two deep leadership. You really shouldn't be there by yourself.
