Madsen isn't even the lead assistant for the Lakers. I do think he may be an
Up and coming coach but he appears to be a long way off. You don't hear his name mentioned for coaching vacancies.
Sometimes nba teams will hire guys that aren't lead assistants---but a sure thing as an NBA Head man is not easy to predict. Add to the fact there is incredible turnover with nba teams firing coaches and suddenly getting a long term job at byu becomes more appealing.
I will say with Madsen he has never shown any desire to be in utah so he may be a long shot
