we had some good friends many years ago that felt similarly, they decided to
downsize their Christmas and give to less fortunate families. Their kids weren't spoiled, but didn't want for much.

Our friends wrapped up very nice gifts with their boys and delivered them to needy families in the community and made a point of what and why they were doing it. Christmas morning the kids woke to minimal gifts and the memories of what they had done.

Their family universally considers that the very worst Christmas of their whole lives. They never did that again. (they gave, but didn't gyp their own kids)

So, that story should help.
