I was still pretty young when Virgil was playing but his play changed BYU
football forever as LaVell took note of it. He set 6 NCAA records and also led the NFL in pass completion percentage in 1971 when playing for the Bengals. He was an academic all American and took a BYU team that had never done much to an 8-2 record in 1966. His impact is greater than what he is given credit for.
