I've also had lightning hit so close to me that it singed the hair on my body, so that comparison doesn't really change the way I look at it. If you're on top of a mountain during a thunderstorm, you're much more likely to get hit. If we put the entire USA population in a BC wilderness, someone is going to get bit... 😅
