root for Utah when they were not playing BYU. I had little more than rivalry-week smack to say against them. And things changed first when they hired Urban Meyer, and then second when they want to the Pac 12, and then allowed Chris Hill to poison the relationship.

I'm kind of old school, so I always believe that those directly involved in the game (players, staffs, even administration) should be respectful of their opponents. The TDS thing was a sign of disrespect that started with Urban Meyer, and then grew from there.

I felt zero animosity towards Utah when they were invited to the Pac12. Were they the most deserving, not from results in the conference. In the MWC, one school only, BYU, had won more than 50% of all conference championships across all sanctioned sports. It was what it was, and good for Utah for making it. But then the "superior than thou" because of its conference affiliation kicked in. The demeaning treatment of BYU from Utah's administration, athletic departments, players and fans, acting as if everything they did had been always superior to BYU--even though records and results overall showed otherwise.

Then, Chris Hill's treatment of BYU and disrespecting the rivalry and trying to do everything he could to ruin the relationship between Utah and BYU.

For me, all this, and a few other items, turned me from respecting Utah as athletic rival to one that, in my opinion, deserved no respect, and today, still deserves little respect. Their continued arrogance in the treatment of the Big12 conference continues to show the same behavior on their part.

I'm willing to give them respect again, but they're going to have to earn it--and they haven't started off well on that account.
