I guess that makes sense. But I've seen refs signal a TD very late so I expected
A very late call to still be signaled.

Still no explanation for that terrible review that gave KSU 3 points.

There was not a good video angle of where the ball was when his toe hit the sideline...

There were 2 angles that showed his foot on the line and the ball at ~ the 1/2
The Y's Insider

ESPN showed a very clear angle. Both commentators were shocked at the ruling

Huh? They had the angle right on the goalline

This was the smaller problem. It was clear when his foot touched down that the ball was short. (You can use info from 2

Looks like the shadow of the ball is clearly in the endzone. Touchdown!

I don't think that's crux of question. When was the TD called? If not called the

It’s the “stands” vs “confirmed”. Call on the field was apparently going to stand either way. But WHY did they
mvtoro

The change to the on the field call is what I don't understand
The Dark Knight
Sep 23, 12:55pm
This is where it bugs me. If there’s no video review coming I doubt any ref has the balls to huddle and override the guy

The only explanation that makes sense in my mind is that the official mis-spoke.

No. They actually called it a TD LONG after the play and while huddled.

Ah... I missed that part.

1) No. They announced TD as ruling on the field. 2) No way that video “overturns” a call that he stepped out.

Sep 23, 12:57pm
Why? He was very clearly short
BYU '80

So if the official call on the field had been that he stepped out, there’s no way that video would have overturned it.

Maybe they were confused on the standard to overturn the call. They thought they needed something clearer

The more egregious error IMO was overriding (in huddle) the call of the ref who was closest to the play. I don’t think

I’m not sure us getting the ball at the 1/2 yard line would have been the best outcome.

??? A turnover on downs at the 1/2 yard line is definitely better than giving up a field goal. I know there is risk of

The refs are allowed to huddle, ask each other if another had a better angle or

The line judge right at the play showed us all his call with his signal. Whoever in the huddle overruled or convinced

I am never a fan of any ref overturning a call that hurts BYU...ever.

Maybe the ref who called him out of bounds had 2nd thoughts in the huddle

Shouldn't they have signaled that it was aTD then?

They came out of their huddle and declared the official ruling on the field to be “TD” before the review started. No one

They announced that before the video review?
