I am not informed enough to agree or disagree. But the people who set it up...
Would likely be the first people cut out of the profits if it transitioned to a public option. There's no insurance or private sector bureaucracy to siphon profits. It would all be public sector.

Or am I wrong here? Is it the government mandating the current bureaucracy and they're just profiting while they can?
