Just trying to provide perspective as an ER doc. Usually 95-98% of an ER bill
goes to things other than the doctor. The doctor is usually not the reason for huge health care bills in America. And neither is your hospital for the most part. Your local hospital is probably operating on a 2-3% margin if they’re doing well.


Most of it goes to administrative bloat, cost of medical supplies and medications, insurance (probably the single biggest factor), and corporate middlemen completely external to the hospital or doctor who saw you. It’s a complete mess.
