I know this doesn't exactly fit that, but it is the same general idea. You distort someone's argument, or claim they are arguing something that they are not arguing at all, and then defeat that argument, instead of the one they are actually making.

This isn't an argument, but the concept is similar. Build up the thing that never happened, then mock that thing and pat yourself on the back in the process instead of facing reality.
