I took my four sons to the game. They got cheering and jumping up and down when the game was good.
There was an Utah fan that was calling my kids names telling them to get out, that they were losers insulting my kids as humans. I could not believe it. My kids actually felt bad for him and thought he must have a mental disorder. They had never treated anyone like that in their lives and they had never Seen that kind of behavior in public.
There were several Utah fans nearby that came and apologized, even putting their arm around my kids and assuring them that all Utah people were not like that. By the end of the game, the guys, wife and family, and even his kids were ashamed of him and not even talking to him, his wife and kids walked out without him. He was still yelling at my kids. I quietly walked up to him and told him these are kids and you are an adult I will call the police if you don’t back off. He screamed at me the whole way out To the portal.
He told us we were all losers and to go back to Provo
My two older kids were saying they wish they would’ve kicked his butt.
My two younger kids were really sad for him…..couldn’t believe that an adult man would act that way they said they had seen kids at school say silly things and rude things like that, but they did not ever expect to see a grown man say those kind of things.
They are good Utah people. I have never seen BYU fans treating anyone like that in the Marriott center or LES if I had, I would say something, and I would stand up firmly.
One thing we have really enjoyed over the years is talking to fans from the other teams we are playing in football and basketball. It is really cool to talk to people from other places and see their impressions of us and our university and our venues and our people the Wisconsin folks were wishing for better bars, but other than that, I haven’t had many complaints. They were pretty cool though. We had a great time at the big 12 tournament this spring and Manny were very happy to have us in the conference. Iowa State fans were talking about the Marriott center even Oklahoma and Texas fans were fun to talk to.
There was a real nice Texas Tech lady that we made friends with her and her family and we sat two rows in front of them all week and we talked with them during various games….complementing each other‘s teams and such.
We were watching all of the games, not just our own teams games, but we were watching all of the teams play ….when we played Texas Tech, she was screaming things and yelling at us even swearing …it was crazy, but after the game, she was nice and wondering if we could get Andy Reid to give her son an autograph.
