A lot of discussion on this board comes with heightened tension these days because the pressure is at an all time high to compete and win, and so many are vitriolic about Kalani.
You're probably not one of them, but I have seen comments that lead me to believe a few fans would bend over backwards to do ANYTHING besides just give Kalani credit for anything. So a small critique like this can sound like that, even if it's not meant to be.
To further answer your question, Kalani has shown a preference for attempting 4th down conversions often, in certain field situations, and he sees them as a calculated risk of sorts, since it won't be a huge field position swap. So I don't think he or the team sees those situations as "oh crap, we better get this next one or we screwed up again," but rather "hey if we convert, great, if not we were just going to punt anyway."
