Listening to Kalani's interviews after Day 1 of camp and one of the reporters asked him if they were going to do any live scrimmages. A very easy question that a Head Coach should know without hesitation for fall camp. He bumbles and stumbles for over a minute without really sharing anything concrete or relevant in terms of approach to scrimmages or when they will be held.
Should a head coach know the general approach, schedule, and process for fall camp especially when full scrimmages will be held? The best coaches do - in fact, they establish a "process" that works and rarely deviate from it. I am not sure Kalani has any process or vision - it feels very fast and loose with everything and the way he communicates publicly about many aspects of the program do not instill any confidence that he is detail oriented or as involved as he probably should be as the "CEO". I love the guy as a person, but I am losing faith fast in his ability to take this program to a higher level. Always "have to watch the film" and never any real concrete vision or insight shared to show proof of a "well oiled" machine/program.
