tuition and at some point a car. Grad school though I did completely on my own, but my parents offered backup in case the grants and campus job situations didn't work out right and I ran out of money.

I am trying to save up enough that I could cover a low-cost (like BYU, community college, etc) room/board/tuition fully for one year for each kid, and half of the room/board/tuition for three years thereafter for each. I think that's all I'll be able to do. I expect they'll work summers and get a 10-hour/week job during the school year like I did.
