If you stick with RWD then 4 snow tires.
The steering wheels need to be able to grip and hard rubber all seasons don't give that grip and pull when needed.
Just my preference and experiences.

Get a FWD sedan and sell the RWD. Even with great tires going up to a ski resort would often suck

They'd have to be studded snow tires, and even that's not likely enough for a

Yeh, but you wouldn't want to do it with all season. Having a FWD or even better AWD allows you to

I disagree. I’ve driven RWD in Utah for years. FWD understeers. RWD oversteers. AWD does either depending on if it’s

All seasons will not cut it on mandatory chains or 4WD days.

So we'll want some chains/cables for bad canyon days. What about tires?

Do studded snow tires in winter, anything you want during the other times. Go cheap in Fall/Summer/Spring

If he wants to ski, RWD won't cut it. AWD or FWD with great tires / chains

Best all season snow tire is the Michelin Cross climate 2 tires.

Best and safest IMO is 4 snow tires on Front Wheel drive.

Get a CB person to go buy new tires and give them the ‘opportunity’ to drive the car to Cedar to break them in

An excellent plan. But in this case I'll be trailering it out when I move him.

Honestly, I am way less concerned about RWD than I am about the right tires.

Honestly, from someone who tried.. there are no good RWD snow tires.

Wait, you didn’t die by driving RWD in the winter? My worst winter driver was FWD, understeer is terrifying.
