100%. They hide and then spread. You catch those after they have penetrated
the enamel and before they start spreading width wise and undermining cusps. Prevents future crowns and root canals.

Some dentists wait until there is a good stick with the explorer to treat them and by that time they are deep and spreading. With magnification, you can see the shadowing and color changes that indicate decay and do a small filling instead of a deep, wide filling.
