I hate to say this, but this reminds me of NIMBY's in California
They would stand at city councils and complain about how "they" are ruining their childhood by wanting to build more housing. Then they go back to how "they" remember everything and how everything has been ruined by "those" people. (Usually when they say "those" people its a literal classist/elitist tone of voice).
