We’re not evaluating cheese in a vacuum here, it’s as a topping to a burger.
In that application, American is almost always the best option. Compliments the other components perfectly.

if you're trying to argue pepper jack should be the default cheese, that's not supportable. it's OK in a rare instance

I used to travel to NM about twice a year and tried as many burgers as I could. Lots of decent, but nothing incredible.
