pure bred with great blood lines. I got her because I hunt birds, especially waterfowl, and she is fantastic at all of the things I need her to do as a hunting dog. In fact this is the 4th lab I've owned since I got married, 2 chocolates, one yellow, and one black. All previous ones have lived outside in a kennel although they were house trained and spent plenty of time in the house, especially when it got cold, but they lived in their kennel.
When I brought this one home as a pup my wife took and instant bonding to it and she decided it would live in the house and be a pet as much as a hunting dog. She has been great as both. She is incredibly smart, she taught herself to open the door to go out or come in, our door hardware is handles not round knobs so she can just put her foot on it and push it down and open the door, figured it out herself. Like yours she is great around kids and people but also a good guard dog who protects the house. She goes running with my wife every day which I really like because I don't like my wife to run alone. My wife also hikes quite a lot so I am very glad she has our dog to go with her and of course when I hike she goes as well. She loves to go places with us, like down to the gas station to get a drink, we'll get her a piece of jerky. Frankly she's fantastic and I will be absolutely devastated when her time is up.
First time I've ever really had a dog that was as much a pet as a hunting dog although my hunting dogs were pets they just weren't full time like this one is. I think we will always have a lab for as long as we live, even when I decide to quit hunting.
