Let's have a semantic argument about what the power conferences were called and miss the point altogether

Fact is that BYU played in a lesser conference. There is no way to compare the traditional power conferences to a conference like the WAC. And this way pretty much proven true in the bowl games. Lavell's BYU teams ran through the WAC only to have real trouble in the Bowl games.

No, the point is the WAC was on par with the Big 8, SWC, ACC, and SEC.
