My Dad passed away September 10th
The previous Friday night my two college-aged sons and I went to his bedside and watched the SMU game. That was the last night he was conscious and he was high-fiving us and talked about the Miracle Bowl vs SMU.

He was a BYU professor and the biggest BYU sports fan out there. He took us to all the Danny Ainge-era games and all the football games from the Gifford era all the way through. That legacy has continued with me and my two boys. Ainge was to me as Jimmer was for my sons at the same age. Just locked me in as a fan for life. That bond is so real and enhances our relationship in a real way.

My youngest daughter is starting her freshman year at BYU and will not miss either a football or basketball game in the ROC. Saturday night she had all her roommates and other friends watching the game in our theater room and all hades broke loose when Ferrin's FG sailed through. They then headed to Provo to join in the celebration that lasted until about 4am. Sent us pictures with Will Ferrin getting off the bus. It was a frenzy of fun in Provo. She said that was the "best night of my life."

We've been saying it all season long. Dad is up there doing something. When Retzlaff fumbled down near the goal line with 3 or 4 Utes right around him and that ball just somehow bounced right back into his chest we all kind of looked at each other and knew the Cougs were going to somehow pull this thing out again.
