he releases or is blocking at the line, you have a defender who is staying man on him in case he releases. Everyone has the guy they stay with and are responsible for.

That’s what you’re describing.

We could talk about it, but you might already know a couple of the reasons that teams play zone defense so often instead of always playing man.
