how we set it up depended on the timing and the location of kid's school.

first two I passed on two years of GI Bill. that pays all tuition and books (they went to BYU or state schools that were totally covered by the GI Bill amount). It also gives a monthly stipend that I encouraged them to live under that so they could bank some for the next two years where I didn't really provide any assistance. They each also got a reliable car to use.

The next two are finishing FR year. One at BYU-I, I'm paying tuition and he's paying everything else. No car yet as a FR, and less needed in Rexburg, but probably at some point will get him something. The other is going to a local school, so he's paying tuition and books and living at home for free. He also has a car which they already used in HS, which is needed to get to the school as it's a long drive from our home.

they all have to get part-time jobs starting Sophomore year too, although the one at home kept working as a FR too. but generally I want FR year to be them working hard at school and getting off on the right foot academically.
