I worked for a production builder that charged 35-40% MARGIN on change orders...not profit, margin.
To be fair a portion of that margin was intended to cover overhead expenses, but you get the idea.

Make them fix errors earlier. Make sure walls are actually straight up.

In regards to technology changes, definitely put CAT6 rather than CAT5 in.

I’ve seen LVP bad in bathrooms, use tile, won’t trap moisture like LVP

On a 30 year loan, upgrades aren't that expensive.
