A few times I've been the guy that drove my truck to a spot along the trail
and had a nice meal all ready for them to eat when they arrived, spend the night and keep moving (even ice cream). I understand that not all high adventure hiking routes will allow this, but using fire trails or 4WD trails you can usually get the paths to intersect for at least one night, and also re-stock their supplies or bring needed items so they don't have to carry as much from the start.
