This is a good one
I’d add zip lining at Keana Farms and getting a convertible (at least for the North shore) and driving the H3, Like Like, and/or Pali Hwy’s (there’s a great lookout on Pali Hwy).

Don’t know that you need to actually stay in Waikiki, but you’ll want to visit (at least on first time there). Tons of shops and great restaurants. We accessed it from our VRBO near Hawaii Kai on first visit and were quite happy doing that.

That said, the North Shore is amazing. Hit Ted’s bakery at least once. Waimea Bay and the nature preserve in the adjacent canyon great places where you can swim (conditions permitting).

Lanikai beach is beautiful—rent a kayak and paddle out to the nearby island(s). Do the adjacent Pillbox hike. Relatively quick but you can go longer past the pillboxes if you choose.

Great beaches, hikes and restaurants abound in addition to everything that’s been listed.
